I mentioned this on social media already, but I want to put it down here more deliberately — partly for myself, and partly for those who follow my work beyond the algorithm.
Over the past couple of weeks, I've run into a pattern of restrictions on Meta platforms. Posts removed, temporary bans, the usual vague explanations. This isn’t new — anyone working with the human form in photography has probably danced this dance before — but lately the scrutiny has increased and I've no real idea why. While I understand platforms evolve and lean toward caution, it's a strange feeling to have years of consistent artistic expression suddenly flagged like it’s something else entirely. Likely new policies implemented due to xyz pressure from, I assume major advertisers (that's the only thing that elicits policy change across all major companies).
That said, I’m not mad. Not even frustrated at this point. Just adapting.
My Facebook and Instagram accounts are long-standing — 18 and 13 years respectively — and they still serve an important role in my visibility and communication. But I can’t treat them as safe archives for my full range of work anymore. So I won’t.
From here on out, those platforms will carry what they’re able to carry — portraits, announcements, moments. The more nuanced or sensual work? That will live on my Patreon, which curiously doubles as a means for me to have financial support from my audience (allowing me resources to make more work!) as well as a platform where I can share said work without restrictions.
This isn’t a retreat, it’s just a reshaping. I've always followed the work where it leads — now I’m simply doing the same with where and how I share it.
