I've been teaching Photoshop retouching for a long time now, and one of the things I've emphasized to students, especially over the last year or two, is that modern retouching isn't about choosing between traditional techniques or AI. It's about understanding what tools are available, what they're capable of, and how to use them appropriately.
AI has absolutely changed the way we approach certain editing tasks. Photoshop's AI-powered selection tools, Gen Fill, and other automated features can be incredibly useful. And of course, there are third-party solutions like Evoto and Retouch4me that offer their own capabilities. I'm not opposed to any of these things. I use AI assisted tools (inside Ps) myself when they make sense.
But there's something I keep reminding students: knowing how to retouch without depending entirely on automation is still incredibly valuable.
I've had students come to me frustrated because an automated tool wasn't producing the results they wanted. And their question is usually some variation of, "Well, what do I do now?"
That's where understanding the techniques becomes so important. When you know how to approach skin correction, texture, color, tonal adjustments, masking, and other retouching challenges yourself, you have options. You can adapt. You can troubleshoot. You can make decisions based on what an image actually needs rather than simply accepting whatever an automated process gives you.
And that's a huge part of what I want to share in my 2027 Photoshop Retouching Collection.
This isn't about pretending it's still 2009 and nothing has changed. Quite the opposite. My workflow has evolved considerably over the years, and it continues to evolve as Photoshop changes, new technology becomes available, and I experiment with different approaches.
But it's also not about throwing away everything I've learned simply because we have some impressive new AI functions or applications.
What I want to demonstrate is how I combine proven high end retouching techniques with contemporary Photoshop tools, including AI assisted functions where they're useful. More importantly, I want to explain why I do things the way I do.
Over the years, I've worked with thousands of photographers through workshops, private training, online education, and other projects. I've also spent an enormous amount of time developing my own Photoshop Actions and refining the workflows I use in my photography. All of that experience has shaped how I approach retouching today.
And that's really what this collection represents.
There are countless Photoshop tutorials available online, many of them completely free. I'm well aware of that. So I'm not interested in simply producing another generic collection of instructions showing which buttons to press. I want to share my actual workflow, my techniques, my tools, my experiments, and the reasoning behind the decisions I make.
Not because I expect everyone to retouch exactly like I do, but because I believe photographers can take what I've learned and apply it to their own work in ways that make sense for them.
The collection will include 12 full-length Photoshop retouching tutorials, additional bonus clips, and my complete NBP Photoshop Actions Master Set, featuring more than 100 tools and helper Actions.
I'll be covering a variety of subjects, from skin correction and texture work to color, advanced editing techniques, and modern AI assisted workflows. The tutorials will be released throughout 2027, and they'll also become available individually for photographers who prefer to purchase specific lessons.
Ultimately, I want people to walk away with more than a few new tricks. I want them to understand their options, improve their results, work more efficiently, and feel more confident when they're faced with an editing challenge.
Because the more you understand what you're doing, the less you're limited by what any particular tool can or cannot accomplish.
And to me, that's still one of the most valuable things we can learn about Photoshop.
The complete 2027 collection is available for advance purchase for $149 through December 1, 2026.
