IAS presents Editorial Studio Class, Dallas Jan 23

Briana and I are doing a limited, hands-on Editorial Boudoir shooting class in Dallas on January 23, right before the Gala. The studio is only a few minutes away from everything else happening that day, so we're keeping this compact, accessible and focused: two hours in the studio exploring what Editorial Boudoir can actually look like when we stop talking about the category and start creating it.

We get a lot of questions about Editorial Boudoir, especially what actually makes an image "editorial." Is it wardrobe? Lighting? Styling? Posing? Concept? Production? And how is the creative approach different from more traditional intimate portraiture?

The answer, unsurprisingly, isn't one specific lighting setup or formula.

We'll work through those ideas by actually shooting, demonstrating and discussing the decisions we're making as we go. We'll explore lighting, composition, posing, expression, movement, styling, direction and how all of those elements can work together to give an image a stronger editorial point of view.

And you'll be shooting too. This isn't just two hours of watching us work.

Briana will bring her perspective from the subject and styling side of the camera, including wardrobe choices she's putting together specifically for this class. You'll want to see what she has in store there. Trust me.

I'll be working through the photography side: lighting, composition, lens choices, direction, framing and how I'm evaluating and adjusting the image as we're creating it.

Most importantly, we want this to be useful whether Editorial Boudoir is already part of your work or it's something you've been curious about exploring. Bring your camera, bring your questions and come ready to experiment.

We'll shoot, talk, adjust, improvise and leave plenty of room for Q&A throughout the class.
